As a benchmark player in medical innovation and artificial intelligence applied to healthcare, the IHU Strasbourg is establishing itself as a strategic academic partner of the RHU ENVISAGE. Drawing on its expertise in data annotation and the development of innovative medical devices, the institute is actively contributing to structuring high-quality databases and accelerating the integration of AI into clinical practice, particularly in cardiology.
Presentation of the institution
Since 2011, the IHU Strasbourg is a scientific foundation dedicated to the development, experimentation and valorization of medical innovations in the field of image-guided minimally invasive surgery.
Historically specializing in the digestive tract, the institute is now opening up to other medical disciplines such as bronchoscopy, gynecology and cardiology. Its four founding pillars are care, innovation, education and technology transfer.
Strengthened by its values, the IHU is a genuine third-party site for medical device experimentation, thanks to a unique infrastructure combining design and development laboratories, preclinical and clinical platforms. Its expertise and multidisciplinary teams make it possible to design a medical device from its ideation to its clinical investigation phase in order to evaluate their performance and safety.
Technological expertise in image annotation and AI
The IHU has expertise in the design and evaluation of devices using artificial intelligence. In addition, the IHU has set up a "DIAMS" platform (Data and Artificial Intelligence for Medicine and Health) that supports companies and academics in all the issues involved in an AI/Health Data project: technology, data science, annotation, legal, regulatory and ethical implications (RGPD, protection, acceptability); innovation, intellectual property, commercial potential, medical expertise, patient cohort & institutions, and training.
Building on this expertise, IHU Strasbourg has contributed to the development of several AI-based medial devices that have given rise to technology transfers and the creation of start-ups. For example, mAI CompanionTM medical device which is used by gastroenterologists to assist in the detection of pancreatic tumors and carried by Mediglobe and its start-up Iglobe Scientique.
Strategic contribution to RHU ENVISAGE
As part of ENVISAGE, IHU Strasbourg is contributing its expertise in the annotation of cardiac ultrasound data. It provides an annotation platform and a methodology for designing given training and test sets for artificial intelligence algorithms. Its major role is to deploy the annotation platform for the needs of the project, train the annotators and provide support during the annotation campaign.
